“We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm, and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.” - Jawaharial Nehru
Wandering about…….I gotta tell ya, sometimes thats what I seem to do best. In this fast paced, time everything to the minute society we seem to find ourselves a part of (and trapped in at times), I have to admit, I crave that feeling of wanderlust quite often. Seems like I allow myself to embrace this most when I am out of the country. On this particular evening, the sounds of the Argentineans were the beacon and the camera my guide. Wandering in and out of alleys between tents housing vendors, I slowly and inquisitively approached the top of the hill. The scents in the air from the food stalls, old natives selling handmade crafts, the laughter of children romping about, …… all setting the scene for a memory eternally and cinematically embedded in my mind. This is the gift given to the visiter that chooses not to see a new place as a tourist, but as a traveler.

young emiratis - dubai by Emmanuel Catteau photography on Flickr.Via Flickr:
Young emiratis, in front of Sheick Rashid’s house, ready to perform a traditional dance at a festival in heritage village. They are wearing the Kandura, or dishdash, as it is referred to by the expats. It’s the long white cloak that male UAE Nationals wear. You will be amazed at how these remain crease free during the day - and they never look dirty. They are also holding the traditional stick for the camel dance. The emirate of Dubai enjoys a strong tradition of music and dance, both of which played a vital role in people’s lives. Songs were composed to accompany different tasks, from hauling water at the well, to diving for pearl oysters out in the Gulf.

Snow in Bergen by Kristian Pletten on Flickr.Via Flickr:View Large On Black
Edit: This photo has been replaced. A different picture and a different crop, same location and date. Reason: Ugly bush.
My hometown Bergen at it’s best! I took this picture to describe this amazing winter we’ve just had.
Keep on reading if you want to learn a thing or two about Bergen’s climate!
Bergen experiences a lot of rain because it’s surrounded my mountains. About 2,250mm each year. We actually had an umbrella machine in downtown Bergen. A few years ago Bergen had rain for 85 consecutive days. Because of the Gulf Stream the temperature almost never drops beneath zero degree celsius. The average low temperature during the winter months is around -0.5 degrees, so if we get any snow, it won’t last for a long period of time. BUT! Guess what happened this year? We got a new record. We’ve had snow for 75 days now, AND counting! Kids love it, their parents don’t. Haha. As a photographer I love it. (not to fond of it at 5am when I’m out shoveling snow to get to work)
So this photo is going to be special for me, atleast in the future. I can show this picture to my future kids and tell them that when I was younger we actually had a lot of snow, just like my dad and my grandad tell me today.
